Appear More Youthful and Alert with Eyelid Surgery

As we age, our eyelids stretch and the muscles supporting them weaken, which can make us look older and less alert. A blepharoplasty from Dr. Conrado Trapero can repair sagging eyelids and remove excess skin for a more youthful appearance. At Clínica Trapero, we perform eyelid surgery at a fully equipped local hospital in Mazatlán, Mexico. This procedure can restore sagging eyebrows and minimize the appearance of bags under the eyes, making you appear more alert and energetic. Dr. Trapero can also combine a blepharoplasty with additional treatments, such as laser skin tightening, to treat any surrounding wrinkles.

What Can Blepharoplasty Treat?

Dr. Trapero can perform a blepharoplasty on either or both the upper and lower eyelid. This procedure may be right for you if you have:

  • Bags under your eyes
  • Fine wrinkles on the lower eyelid
  • Droopy upper eyelids
  • Fatty deposits that cause puffiness in the eyelids
  • Excess skin on the upper or lower eyelids

For some patients, excess skin is not only an aesthetic concern, but actually interferes with their vision. Sagging of the face can be caused by many issues, such as relaxation of the muscles in the forehead or eyebrows.

During Your Procedure

The first step of eyelid surgery is administering anesthesia. Once you are comfortable, Dr. Trapero will make a small incision in a discrete location, such as the natural crease on the eyelid or below the lower lash line. Using this incision, Dr. Trapero will remove the excess tissue.

For more dramatic results, Dr. Trapero can combine your blepharoplasty with additional treatments to remove fine lines and wrinkles.

Unlike other surgeons, Dr. Trapero uses a new, advanced technique to conserve and reposition the fat around the eye for a smoother appearance. When fat is removed during a blepharoplasty, it can make the lower lids appear hollow within a few years since patients lose fat in that area. However, when fat is conserved, you can enjoy a natural-looking result for years to come.

For more dramatic results, Dr. Trapero can also combine your blepharoplasty with additional treatments. For example, if you experience sagging around the lower eyelid, he can perform a laser skin tightening procedure to remove fine lines and wrinkles.

After Your Treatment

Most patients are released from the hospital within a few hours of eyelid surgery. We recommend that blepharoplasty patients remain in Mazatlán for at least one week after their procedure to allow us to monitor the recovery process. During this time, you may experience certain temporary side effects, such as blurred vision, watering eyes, or light sensitivity. Your eyes may also swell or bruise for a few days. Pain or discomfort can usually be managed with acetaminophen-based pain medications.

To minimize the effects of postoperative symptoms, we recommend that you apply ice packs periodically during the first one to two days after your surgery. Patients should wear darkly tinted sunglasses and avoid any strenuous activities, such as heavy lifting or jogging, for at least one week. In addition, we recommend you wait at least two weeks before wearing contact lenses.
