The Breast Reduction Procedure

Breast reduction at our facility in Mazatlán, Mexico can be performed in a variety of ways. You will discuss the different options in detail with Dr. Trapero before surgery to determine which method will be best for you. One of the most common techniques involves three incisions: one around the dark-pigmented area surrounding the nipple (areola); one following the crease under the breast; and one from the areola to the base of the breast. Once the incisions have been made, Dr. Trapero will remove the excess fat and tissue. Then, he will reshape the breasts and reposition the nipples, tightening the skin around them. Some breast reduction surgeries require the detachment and reattachment of the nipple during surgery. The procedure typically lasts about three to four hours under general anesthesia.

Recovery after Breast Reduction

Swelling and discomfort are temporary side effects after a breast reduction, and should fade during the healing process. Although some scarring will be present after a breast reduction, Dr. Conrado Trapero tries to make the appearance of scars as discreet and minimal as possible. Keep in mind that breast reduction is a major surgery and will require substantial recovery time. Heavy lifting and/or strenuous exercise should not be attempted for several weeks after the procedure. Most patients are able to return to work after about 10 to 14 days.
